Qualification Overview
Advance your automotive career by obtaining your refrigerant handling license with this nationally recognised essential qualification. This course covers safe practices for working with automotive air conditioning systems and is required for your license.
With strong demand for qualified mechanics, including air conditioning specialists, and approximately 23,000 job openings expected in the next five years, this training is timely. You will learn to install, service, and repair air conditioning systems while adhering to relevant regulations. Upon completion, you will be eligible to apply for your Automotive Refrigerant Handling License, allowing you to work on air conditioning systems across various vehicles and equipment.
Career Outcomes
This nationally recognised qualification is intended to prepare new employees or recognise and develops existing workers who service, diagnose and repair air conditioning systems and components in light, heavy and commercial vehicles, and in automotive plant and equipment. Qualification Entry requirements
There are no Training Package entry requirements but it is preferred that the students have a mechanical or electrical aptitude.Allora College Entry Requirements
- Students should have completed formal study to demonstrate a sufficient skill level of language, literacy and numeracy to achieve the qualification.
- Allora college will conduct a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) as-assessment before enrolment to assess the language, literacy and numeracy skill level for prospective students. There is no need to be discouraged about this as the LLN is a great tool to allow us to identify any extra sup-port you may require.
- Students should be physically strong to be able to conduct tasks which may include but not limited to manual handling, heavy lifting and the ability to stand for long periods of time

Assessments of skills and knowledge are crucial for advancing in your course. At our college, you may undergo various forms of assessment, such as observation, knowledge tests in the form of written tests and quizes, portfolios, work samples, and feedback.How to apply

1. Fee For Service
Fees for self-funded students. The Fee for Service is applied when a student is not eligible for or already exhausted the subsidy at that level or where no subsidies are available under their current visa arrangement.
Course fees vary depending on the qualification and delivery type.

2. Career Start – General Training Pathway – “Funded by the Queensland”
To access a subsidised training place under Career Start, a student must meet the following criteria:
- aged 15 years or older;
- not be a school student;
- permanently reside in Queensland;
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
- not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count);
- not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).

Co-contribution Fee represents the total non-government subsidised portion of essential training costs for the participant to undertake the qualification. This fee includes total cost to the student to enrol, undertake training and be awarded the qualification.
Career Start Program Policy
3. Career Start – Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway – “Funded by the Queensland Government”
For apprenticeships and traineeships, an individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Contract (the Contract) as defined by the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (the Act).

c) Free apprenticeships for under 25s:
The Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s Program is part of the Free TAFE initiatives, a commitment of the National Jobs and Skills Summit to make more places fee free, allowing more Queenslanders to become skilled in areas critical for the economy.
This Program offers fully subsidised training for young people under 25 years who commence in a priority apprenticeship and traineeship qualification.

d) School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs):
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow secondary school students (usually in Years 10, 11 and 12) to prepare for life after school, in a career of their choice.
Students gain real workplace skills and hands-on industry experience, earn a wage, and train towards a nationally recognised qualification.
